The issuer is Circle, whose partners are Coinbase, BlackRock, MasterCard, Visa and other big guys. If we talk about which stablecoin to hold for the long term and use like dollars, then USDC is the best option for me in terms of security. In DeFi, most instruments are also tied to USDC, so for me USDC is in first place also in terms of which stablecoin to use in DeFi.

The largest stablecoin by capitalization, and the very first stablecoin with dollar collateral, launched in 2014. USDT is less trusted in the crypto community than USDC. And this is understandable. There is not such a wide range of partners as the USDC issuer. USDT is the oldest stablecoin, which has deviated from the dollar exchange rate only a few times since its inception in 2014. And this was due to panic, not due to a lack of real collateral.

A stablecoin issued by MakerDAO backed by crypto assets + short-term US bonds. Bond collateral is almost 54%, and the remaining assets are BTC, ETH, and USDC. DAI is a super-collateralized stablecoin. At the time of writing, its collateral level is 267%. This means that 1 DAI is backed by assets worth 2.67 US dollars. Starting September 18, MakerDAO will provide the opportunity to exchange DAI for a new stablecoin USDS, which will be issued by the same issuer. The exchange rate will be 1:1. An important difference between DAI and USDC and USDT is that it cannot be frozen at the owners' addresses. There is simply no such function in the smart contract. USDC and USDT can be frozen at your address. But personally, I am not afraid of this at all, since the chance is close to zero. USDC and USDT are frozen at the addresses of hackers, specific people under sanctions, scammers and criminals.

FRAX is a stablecoin, 96% backed by USDC, and the remaining 4% is provided by the FXS token. Now FRAX is gradually switching to 100% backing by USDC in order to completely remove the influence of FXS. But do not think that FRAX is just wrapped USDC. The Frax Finance ecosystem is much more complex than it seems at first glance.
These are the 4 stablecoins that I use on a regular basis in my work. Which one to use is up to you.
